Who it serves

Lawyers preparing advice, matters or disputes.

The task

Use a fictional client question and matter record alongside an instructor-verified pack of current primary sources for a named UK jurisdiction. Identify the legal and factual questions, examine citations and passages, assess relevance, note adverse material and record uncertainty before preparing the brief.

The exercise

For each point: issue, jurisdiction and date, source and passage, relevance to the facts, opposing consideration, unresolved gap, and the lawyer's reviewed conclusion.

What you practise

  • —Framing legal and factual questions precisely
  • —Checking each citation against the passage it relies on
  • —Recording adverse material and honest uncertainty
  • —Separating retrieval from the work of checking and applying a source
